I could only ever watch from a distance
Watching as he destroyed himself
He never did listen to me, nor anyone else
"Listen to the song of life" I told him
"There is no song. Not for me."
He sat alone, always alone
He pushed everyone away
He didn't trust humanity, not anymore
Scars that would never heal
"Can't you see what's around you?
Not everything is cruel. There is beauty."
"No. There is no beauty. Not for me.
The world is a harsh place of grey."
He would not fight and the darkness drew him in
He waited patiently on a black sea shore
Waiting for the tide to come in and claim him
I woke one morning to find him gone
His waiting was over
The sea pulsed with him, with his life
The dark water tugged at my ankles
A caressing touch, the touch of a lover
I could feel him in that touch
I could taste him in the ir I breathed
He was all around me
The black sea called me back to it's barren shore
I was the one waiting now
And still his precense wrapped around me
Bound by the wash of waves and his touch
For now I saw the grey world
The song of life died in my ears
And another came
"Why do you wait, alone so?"
"I have no choice. It calls me."
"Life calls you. You are not meant to follow."
The other reached out to me, arms open
"He chose to fall. You must live. Join me."
A warm embrace flooded dead limbs
Life surged back
He left you his soul
The whispers cried
You are his legacy
The song of life roars into my head
The grey world surges into colour
People reach to hold me
But beyond it all, the lap of the dark sea constantly sounds
In the corner of my vision a barren beach rises
And always, his touch on my heart suffocates.
